They are gentle, relaxed and have a really sweet nature. They love to be cuddled and to curl up on peoples’ laps. They enjoy playing, like children and are good with other pets, including dogs. They love people and show great loyalty to their owners.
The breed is fascinated by water – especially the sound of running water. Don’t be surprised if they try to join you in the bath or shower, or if they jump in the kitchen sink!
This is an extremely trusting breed. For this reason, and because of their fascination with water, they shouldn’t be allowed to go outside unsupervised.
Their soft, silky fur isn’t too time-consuming to keep in good condition – a quick comb 2 or 3 times a week is usually fine.
2) Looks, build, colours and markings:
The traditional ragdoll cats have big blue eyes, thick, fluffy fur, wide-set ears and a triangular-shaped head. They have a muscular, sturdy body, and can grow quite large – fully grown females can weigh up to 15 pounds, and males up to 20 pounds. They are born white, but some develop light coloured coats and point colours, similar to Siamese cats. The minks ragdoll cats are born with colour in their coat and their eye colour is aqua, green or yellow. They have a very soft fur like a mink coat.
3) History:
The Ragdoll cat breed was created in the 1960s by breeding a long haired white female with Siamese and Persian males. This produced kittens with the gentle temperament of a Persian cat, a look similar to Siamese cats and semi-long, non-matting fur.
